Count Saint-Germain bears a humanoid appearance with medium-length hair that partially covers his forehead, styled with bangs similar to those often used by Tatsu for female characters. His eyes are distinctively drawn in a delicate, expressive style. He has pierced ears adorned with key-shaped earrings and is widely regarded as attractive, especially by the women around him.
His wardrobe reflects an elegant yet militaristic aesthetic. He wears a long, dark coat featuring ornate lapels and shoulder plates, with its collar standing upright and pinned with emblems of inverted triangles, each containing a concentric circle resembling an eye. Beneath the coat, he sports an ascot tie elegantly wrapped around his neck and a long-sleeved vest inspired by the design of a hussar dolman. His hands are gloved, and his dark trousers are cinched with a sash, accompanied by two fabric panels draping down the sides of his legs. Completing his ensemble are thigh-high boots and a katana sheathed at his left hip, suggesting both refinement and combat readiness.

Personality
Count Saint-Germain exhibits a calm and composed demeanor, though his speech is marked by an eccentric quirk—he frequently elongates the word “nice”. Driven by an insatiable curiosity about the world’s mysteries, he dedicates himself to collecting artifacts and phenomena linked to the paranormal. His interests range from UFOs and supernatural objects to the powers possessed by yokai, with his ultimate goal being the acquisition of Dandadan. Believing that a human lifespan is too brief to accomplish this pursuit alone, he chooses to collaborate with others, leading to his infiltration of Kami High under the alias Sanjome. By becoming the advisor of the History and Culture Research Club, he gains proximity to potential sources of paranormal phenomena.
However, despite his role as an advisor, Saint-Germain tends to avoid trivial responsibilities, such as assisting with the clubroom’s renovation. His authoritative nature is evident in his interactions with the club members—when Momo voiced her complaints about the renovation, he curtly dismissed her objections, insisting she comply, and even referred to her as a “nimrod.” Yet, beneath his blunt and occasionally rude exterior, Saint-Germain demonstrates a sense of social propriety, as shown when he offered his seat to an elderly woman on a train. In his leisure time, he enjoys reading, suggesting a contemplative side to his otherwise goal-driven personality.
Relationships
Turbo Granny
Turbo Granny displayed a surge of intense anger upon seeing Count Saint-Germain’s face through the Serpo communicator, addressing him as “Hyper Geezer” (ハイパージジイ, Haipājijii). Although the specifics of their history remain unclear, Turbo Granny’s hostile reaction suggests a past conflict or unresolved animosity between them.
Synopsis
Kintama Hunt Saga
Onbusuman Arc
Prior to the Kur Invasion, Count Saint-Germain approached Unji, who was conducting research on cursed objects at a library. Seizing the opportunity, Saint-Germain offered Unji a mission: infiltrate the inner dimension of a cursed trunk that imprisoned the yokai known as the Fairy-Tale Card and facilitate his escape. In exchange, Saint-Germain promised Unji the use of the Fairy-Tale Card’s yokai powers, which could be further amplified by Unji’s own Umbrella Boy abilities. To ensure Unji’s success, Count Saint-Germain obtained Okarun’s second kintama from the Kamikoshi police box and entrusted it to Unji, enabling him to access his yokai powers within the trunk’s inner world.
Following the Kur invasion, Count Saint-Germain passed through the Gates of Hell and arrived on Earth. To further his objectives, he infiltrated Kami High under the guise of “Sanjome,” assuming the role of deputy head teacher as acknowledged by the school’s faculty. Upon discovering that Momo and Okarun had formed the History and Culture Research Club, he offered to become their supervisor. When questioned by Momo about his background, Sanjome avoided giving a direct answer, instead expressing his passion for uncovering the world’s mysteries through collective effort. Subsequently, he assigned the club members the task of clearing out the school’s storage room to serve as their clubroom.
Danmanra Arc

After the Fairy-Tale Card successfully escaped from the cursed trunk, Count Saint-Germain confronted him as planned. Before engaging in battle, Saint-Germain incapacitated the mind-controlled Renjaku high school students using paralyzing talismans crafted from the trunk’s black cloth. Although the Fairy-Tale Card recognized Saint-Germain and was aware of his plot to free him, Saint-Germain claimed not to know the yokai’s current form.As the fight began, the Fairy-Tale Card utilized his powers to erase Saint-Germain’s eyesight, forcing him to battle while blind. Despite the Fairy-Tale Card’s advantage, thanks to his ability to regenerate his destroyed cards from buds, Saint-Germain deduced that the only way to defeat him was to destroy all of his cards simultaneously. Realizing he could not achieve this alone, Saint-Germain coordinated with Okarun, Rokuro, and Bega, who had just escaped from the cursed trunk.

Postponing formal introductions, Saint-Germain proposed that Okarun collaborate with him to defeat the Fairy-Tale Card. Although Rokuro recognized Saint-Germain and questioned his presence, the Count denied knowing him. As the Fairy-Tale Card regenerated from Rokuro’s particle beam, Saint-Germain instructed Okarun and Rokuro to target specific pairs of cards simultaneously, asking Okarun to tap into his Turbo Granny power. When the Fairy-Tale Card failed to possess Unji after he regained consciousness, Saint-Germain warned against succumbing to the yokai’s manipulative tactics and signaled the team to launch a synchronized assault.
Following the Fairy-Tale Card’s defeat, Count Saint-Germain intercepted the weakened yokai and prevented his escape. After forcing him to concede defeat, Saint-Germain extracted his yokai powers as planned, reiterating his goal of collecting everything related to the paranormal, including yokai abilities. Before leaving, he asked the Fairy-Tale Card whether he had any knowledge of Dandadan.
Current Saga
Kozuka Knives Arc
During this arc, Sanjome encountered Okarun sprinting through the school corridors and advised him to be cautious of colliding with others. Curious about Okarun’s destination and secrets, he pursued him, engaging him in a conversation about noise cancellation, metronome synchronization, and bacteria. His seemingly unrelated remarks were a prelude to his intent to draw a knife and steal Okarun’s power. However, despite Okarun’s compliance, Sanjome unexpectedly chose to abandon his plan due to an unforeseen development, allowing Okarun to leave.
Later, Sanjome spotted the History and Culture Research Club chasing after Kouki Yukishiro and instructed them to walk instead of run, which they did until they were out of his sight. After the Family learned of Kouki’s situation, Kinta planted a nanoskin surveillance camera disguised as a hair ornament on her to identify the teacher who had blackmailed her. Among the suspects, Sanjome approached Kouki and cryptically asked her what “secret” she had discovered. His behavior raised suspicions in Momo and Okarun, who noted that Sanjome had previously questioned Okarun for similar reasons. However, Sakata rationalized that Sanjome’s eccentric nature made it difficult to draw conclusions, especially since he had never mentioned knives or powers, leaving his potential involvement in the blackmail unclear.
Later, Saint-Germain approached a Kur wielding the Jet Booster Exosuit, who had been found within ruins believed to be the site where Reiko Kashima first appeared. Having waited for some time as the Kur regained consciousness, he casually inquired if the damaged exosuit belonged to her, suggesting she replace it. When the Kur demanded to know his intentions, Saint-Germain revealed that he required her assistance with a specific task. Offering her the option to refuse, he warned that surviving Earth’s gravity without his help would be exceedingly difficult, a fact made evident as the Kur visibly struggled to stand due to the planet’s gravitational force.
Abilities and Powers
Natural Abilities
Physical Prowess
Extrasensory Perception: Count Saint-Germain possesses an advanced sixth sense that allows him to detect and respond to attacks without relying on sight. This ability was evident during his battle against the Fairy-Tale Card, where he effortlessly evaded and redirected the yokai’s bud strikes despite being blinded by its power. His perception extends to sensing the presence of individuals, as shown when he immediately recognized that Okarun, Rokuro, and Bega had escaped from the cursed trunk.
Immense Speed & Reflexes: Count Saint-Germain demonstrates exceptional speed and reflexes, capable of moving so swiftly that his mere movement knocks back several Renjaku high school students. His speed is further highlighted by his ability to instantaneously retrieve paralyzing talismans from the black cloth used during the Danmanra rescue mission and place them on the heads of multiple mind-controlled students without being detected. During his confrontation with the Fairy-Tale Card, Saint-Germain’s agility allowed him to simultaneously evade both the yokai’s bud strikes and the attacks of the controlled students while remaining in constant motion.
Skill Set
Swordsmanship: Count Saint-Germain is a highly proficient swordsman, with expertise in the Japanese martial art of Iaido. This technique enables him to swiftly draw his sword, deliver a precise slash, and re-sheath the blade in a single, fluid motion. His mastery of this skill allows him to strike with remarkable speed and accuracy, making it difficult for opponents to anticipate or counter his attacks.
Equipment
Katana

Count Saint-Germain wields a katana characterized by its dark-colored hilt and an intricately designed tsuba (guard).
Usage
He integrates his sword with kogai—ornamental hairpins traditionally used in Japanese sword fittings—by inserting them into the holes of his tsuba. This technique allows him to harness the specific powers embedded within each kogai, primarily for combat purposes. However, he is limited to using only one kogai at a time.
Kogai

Stored beneath his coat, Count Saint-Germain carries multiple kogai, each imbued with powers extracted from yokai he has encountered. By inserting a kogai into his sword’s tsuba, he can temporarily access the corresponding yokai’s abilities, enhancing his combat effectiveness.
Known Kogai
Jumping Crone (ジャンピングババア, Janpingu Babā)

This kogai enhances Count Saint-Germain’s jumping ability, allowing him to leap great distances. Additionally, it grants him the power to summon enchanted platforms beneath his feet, enabling him to traverse the air with agility and precision.
Black Haircutter (黒髪切, Kurokamikiri)

This kogai amplifies the cutting power of Saint-Germain’s sword. When activated, the sword emits black lightning, increasing both the strength and lethality of his slashes, making it particularly effective against durable opponents and barriers.
Water Tiger (水虎, Suitora)

This kogai enhances Count Saint-Germain’s physical density, increasing the force of his movements. When landing from a fall, the impact of his feet is powerful enough to cause cracks to form on the surface beneath him, making it useful both offensively and for intimidation.
Asura (阿修螺, Ashura)

Count Saint-Germain wields a set of kozuka knives forged from the blade of the cursed sword Asura, granting him the ability to absorb powers under specific conditions.
Capabilities
Power Absorption
The Asura knives can extract abilities from both yokai and humans, but this requires the target to verbally admit defeat before being struck. Once a power is absorbed, it becomes accessible to Saint-Germain, who can then manifest these abilities similarly to his kogai by integrating the knives into his sword.
Known Asuras
Fairy-Tale Card (メルへンカルタ, Meruhen Karuta)

After defeating the Fairy-Tale Card, Count Saint-Germain used an Asura knife to absorb the yokai’s powers of body manipulation, which are activated through specific cards. Each card targets different body parts with unique effects:
- Face Card: Corrupts the minds of humans, allowing Saint-Germain to control them.
- Mouth Card: Erases a human’s mouth, preventing speech or vocalization.
- Eye Card: Erases a human’s eyes, inducing temporary or permanent blindness.
- Ear Card: Emits a disorienting noise that disrupts a human’s sense of hearing.
Unlike the Fairy-Tale Card’s original abilities, the Asura version includes two additional cards featuring illustrations of a fist and a foot, though their specific body manipulation effects remain unknown.
Usage
Similar to his kogai, Count Saint-Germain integrates the Asura knives into his sword’s tsuba to activate the absorbed powers. This allows him to replicate yokai abilities during combat, further augmenting his already formidable skillset.
Trivia
- Count Saint-Germain shares his name with the historical Count of St. Germain, a renowned alchemist and adventurer who was active at the French court during the 18th century.
- His name closely resembles that of Jiji’s favorite soccer team, Zaint-Germain (サンジェルマン, Sanjeruman).
- His alias, Sanjome, phonetically resembles Saint-Germain (pronounced as Sa(i)N(t) GER-MAI(ne)), suggesting a deliberate linguistic similarity.
- The collar pins on Count Saint-Germain’s coat feature an eye symbol that matches the one found on Ludris’ chest and later seen on the clothing of Payase and Kashimoto. Notably, both Payase and Kashimoto are collectors of paranormal artifacts, much like Count Saint-Germain. However, any connection between them remains unknown.
- The eye symbol is likely a reference to the Eye of Providence, a symbol commonly associated with Freemasonry that represents God’s watchful presence over humanity. It is best known for appearing on the reverse side of the Great Seal of the United States, as seen on the American one-dollar bill.
- Count Saint-Germain’s false identity as Sanjome appears to cause a peculiar phenomenon in people’s memories. Although individuals who hear the name Sanjome often feel a sense of familiarity, they are unable to recall any specific memories related to the person bearing that name. This effect also leads to cognitive confusion when they try to remember him. Whether this phenomenon is a supernatural ability that Count Saint-Germain uses consciously or unconsciously has yet to be determined.
